Sarasota Office | Dermatology & Oculoplastic Surgery

Visit Us in Sarasota

Sarasota IDO’s main office is at 1617 S. Tuttle Ave, 3rd Floor, Sarasota, FL 34239. It is the founding location of the Institute of Dermatology & Oculoplastic Surgery, and it is where the practice runs its full range of services: medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, oculoplastic surgery, and eyelid reconstruction after skin cancer.

Our Sarasota office is a full specialty practice under one roof. That means a patient who comes in for a skin check can, if needed, be evaluated by an oculoplastic surgeon for an eyelid lesion the same day — without a second referral or a drive across town. It also means cosmetic patients can consult with both a dermatologist and an oculofacial surgeon in a single visit, which matters when the plan involves both skin and eyes.

Providers at This Location

All three Sarasota IDO providers see patients at the Sarasota office:

Dr. Renelle Lim, MD, FACS — Oculoplastic surgeon and practice owner. Sarasota is her primary location for surgical cases and consultations. She handles functional eyelid surgery (ptosis, entropion, ectropion, tearing problems), cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), brow lifts, orbital and lacrimal cases, and reconstruction after Mohs surgery around the eyes.

Dr. Ilya Lim, MD, FAAD — Board-certified dermatologist. Full-spectrum medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Sees new patients and existing patients for skin cancer screening, procedural derm, and cosmetic consultations.

Dr. Shauntell Solomon, DO — Board-certified osteopathic dermatologist. Sees new and existing dermatology patients. Currently has good near-term availability if you have been having trouble getting in elsewhere.

Because all three physicians are in the same building on the same days, cases that cross specialties — an eyelid skin cancer, a brow lesion, a cosmetic patient with both skin and eyelid concerns — get handled in one coordinated visit whenever possible.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Before your visit. New patients get access to our online portal to complete paperwork ahead of time. If you would rather fill it out in the office, plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications, and any prior biopsy reports or imaging that might be relevant. If you have a lesion or spot you want us to look at, please do not cover it with makeup or bandages that day.

Arriving. The office is on the 3rd floor at 1617 S. Tuttle Ave. The building has elevator access, and the check-in desk is directly to your right as you exit the elevator on 3. If you filled out paperwork through the portal ahead of time, check-in usually takes a couple of minutes.

Wait time. We try to run on schedule. If we are running behind — which occasionally happens when a surgical add-on comes in or a complex case runs long — the front desk will let you know and offer to reschedule if the wait is going to be significant. Our internal target is that patients are called back within 15 minutes of their scheduled time.

The visit itself. A medical assistant will bring you back, review your history and current medications, and take vitals if the visit requires it. Then the physician comes in. For a new dermatology skin check, plan on 20–30 minutes. For an oculoplastic surgical consultation, plan on 45–60 minutes because it includes photography, precise measurements of eyelid position and function, and a detailed discussion of surgical and non-surgical options. Cosmetic dermatology consultations typically run 30–45 minutes to allow time to review your goals, examine the treatment areas, and walk through pricing.

Photography and records. For any oculoplastic case and most cosmetic cases, we take standardized clinical photos. These stay in your medical record and are used to plan surgery and compare before-and-after results. Photos are never used in marketing without your written consent.

After the visit. You will leave with a written plan, prescriptions called in to your pharmacy of choice, and follow-up instructions. Biopsy results typically come back in 5–10 business days; we call you either way — good news or otherwise, you hear from us. If a procedure was recommended, the surgical scheduler will call within a day or two to get you on the calendar and go over pre-op instructions.

Follow-up. For post-surgical patients, first follow-up is usually within one week. For chronic dermatology conditions like acne, rosacea, or psoriasis, we typically re-check at 8–12 weeks to see how a new regimen is working and adjust from there.

Insurance & Payment

We accept most major medical insurance plans for medical dermatology and functional oculoplastic surgery visits. Before your first appointment, our front desk can verify your specific plan, confirm that your visit type is covered, and give you the expected copay so there are no surprises at check-in.

Medical vs. cosmetic — a note. Insurance covers medically necessary care: skin checks, biopsies, treatment of skin cancer, rashes, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and functional eyelid surgery when your vision is affected. Insurance does not cover cosmetic care: elective blepharoplasty for appearance only, cosmetic injectables, or cosmetic peels and lasers. Some cases have both components — for example, an upper eyelid surgery that has a functional and a cosmetic component. In those cases, we bill insurance for the functional portion and give you a written estimate for the cosmetic add-on. Everything is transparent and in writing before you schedule.

Cosmetic pricing. All cosmetic services are quoted in writing at your consultation. We do not add fees after the fact. Care Credit and other patient financing options are available for larger cosmetic cases.

Prior authorization. For biologic medications (used for severe psoriasis and eczema) and for some surgical procedures, insurance may require prior authorization. Our staff handles the paperwork; you do not need to chase it down. The typical turnaround is 1–3 weeks depending on your carrier.

For questions on coverage, estimates, or a list of insurance plans we accept, call (941) 559-8336 and ask for the front desk.
